Proyecto Paujil
Proyecto Paujil is Curassow Conservation’s flagship initiative focused on protecting the critically endangered Blue-billed Curassow in Colombia. Found only in a small region of northern Colombia, this rare forest bird faces ongoing threats from habitat loss and fragmentation as well as hunting pressure. Proyecto Paujil works in close partnership with local communities and conservation organizations to support habitat protection, strengthen conservation education, and build local capacity to safeguard this species and its ecosystem.
Since its founding in 2018, Proyecto Paujil has focused on developing lasting, community-driven conservation solutions. A central component of Proyecto Paujil is advancing research to better understand the ecology, behavior, and conservation needs of the Blue-billed Curassow. These efforts have contributed valuable insights into the species’ distribution, habitat use, and persistence in fragmented landscapes, information that is essential for guiding effective conservation action. By combining scientific research with community-based conservation, Proyecto Paujil is helping secure a future for the Blue-billed Curassow while building a model for protecting other threatened curassow species across their range.
